Darts Nine-Dart Finishes by Player and Year, 1984–2026

The Rate of Nine-Darters Roughly Doubled From 2010–17 to 2018–25

Counting rows per calendar year, the archive records 2 nine-dart finishes in 2000, 16 in 2010 and 60 in 2025, with a peak of 71 in 2024. The mean over 2010–2017 is 23.6 finishes a year and over 2018–2025 it is 49.6, so the second period runs at 2.1 times the rate of the first. 382 of the 678 finishes, 56%, fall in 2019 or later.

Most of that growth is calendar, not ability: the PDC's Pro Tour, European Tour and development tours added dozens of events a year, and the archive lists finishes from all of them. Only 10 rows predate 2000, when few events were recorded at all, so the early bars measure record-keeping as much as darts.

Michael van Gerwen has the most, 30, ahead of Phil Taylor on 21 and Dave Chisnall on 15. 188 of the 303 players, 62%, have exactly one. The scoring route is on file for 184 finishes (27%), and 118 of those, 64%, are the standard 180 180 T20 - T19 - D12.

How the Numbers Were Made

Source and counting. The rows are the seven paginated pages of Darts Database's nine-darters list, retrieved 2026-09-13. The site reports 681 records; 3 rows that repeated exactly across page boundaries (same date, player, event and darts) were dropped, leaving 678. Two different finishes by the same player at the same event on the same day are kept as two rows. Dates were converted from DD/MM/YYYY.

The finding. Finishes per year is a count of rows by calendar year. The two-period comparison is the mean of those yearly counts over 2010–2017 and over 2018–2025, and the ratio is the second mean divided by the first. The leaderboard counts rows per player as spelled by the source; no spelling variants were merged.

Gaps. The list is every finish the archive knows about, televised or not, so it is not a list of televised nine-darters. Coverage before 2000 is thin (10 rows) and 2026 stops at 2026-02-26 with 16 rows; neither is comparable to a full recent year. The scoring route is missing for 494 rows because the archive has none, not because it was dropped.

Licence. Darts Database states no licence on its pages (checked 2026-09-13). It is a free public results archive, and the table is republished here as attributed reference data with a link back to the source page. Anyone reusing it commercially should check with Darts Database first.
